Your result

How it works

The first hours, up to your overtime threshold, are paid at your regular rate. Every hour above the threshold is paid at your rate multiplied by the overtime multiplier.

If your employer also pays double time after a second threshold, enter it and the hours beyond that point are paid at twice the regular rate instead. Leave it at 0 if you have no double time.

Regular pay = Rate x min(Hours worked, Threshold) Overtime pay = Rate x Multiplier x (Hours above the threshold, up to the double-time point) Double-time pay = Rate x 2 x (Hours above the double-time point) Total = Regular pay + Overtime pay + Double-time pay

Example

At 20 per hour with 48 hours worked, overtime after 40 hours and a 1.5x multiplier, regular pay is 800 and the 8 overtime hours pay 240. The total is 1,040, an average of 21.67 per hour worked.

Frequently asked questions

How is weekly overtime calculated?

Count the hours worked in the week, subtract the overtime threshold, and pay those extra hours at your regular rate times the overtime multiplier. Regular hours keep the normal rate.

Does time and a half mean 1.5 times my rate or my rate plus 1.5 times?

It means 1.5 times your regular rate for that whole hour. At 20 per hour, an overtime hour pays 30, not 50.

What if my country counts overtime per day, not per week?

Some places set a daily limit, for example California after 8 hours in a day. Use the overtime pay calculator with your overtime hours, or the California overtime calculator for that state's daily rules.

Is the result before tax?

Yes. It is gross pay, before taxes and other deductions.
