How it works

Overtime hours are paid at your regular rate multiplied by the overtime multiplier. Regular hours are paid at the normal rate, and the two amounts are added together.

Time and a half (1.5x) is a common multiplier, and double time (2x) often applies to holidays or very long shifts. The right multiplier depends on your country, state and contract.

Overtime rate = Hourly rate x Multiplier Total pay = (Hourly rate x Regular hours) + (Overtime rate x Overtime hours)

Example

At 20 per hour with 40 regular hours and 8 overtime hours at 1.5x, regular pay is 800, the overtime rate is 30 and overtime pay is 240, for a total of 1,040.

I'm salaried. Can I use this?

Convert your salary to an hourly rate first with the salary to hourly calculator, then enter that rate here. Whether salaried staff are eligible for overtime depends on your role and local rules.
